PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The University of Washington Department of Urology values diversity and inclusion.  We are committed to building and preserving diversity among our faculty, staff, and trainees. The UW Urology Visiting Sub-I Scholarship is an award program designed to give students from a broad range of those who have overcome significant barriers and/or traveled a great distance on their way to becoming a physician and/or have demonstrated a commitment to advancing and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion a chance to experience the exceptional training that the University of Washington has to offer. The scholarship award is to assist with the financial burdens of travel for a visiting student.  Sub-interns at the University of Washington function as members of the surgical team, participating in outpatient clinics, inpatient care, emergency procedures, and the operating room.

Traditionally, sub-interns spend a total of four weeks in two different affiliated hospitals in order to achieve the highest level of education and clinical experience possible, but the experience can vary depending on availability. The four participating locations include
