Message from the Chair

Dear Colleagues, Alumni, and Friends of the Department,

As Interim Chair of the Department of Urology, it is a privilege to share with you the incredible work happening across our department and to recognize the collective commitment that drives our mission every day. In our clinics and labs, our faculty, staff, advanced practice providers, and trainees continue to work tirelessly to deliver the highest standard of care to our patients. Whether it’s treating complex urologic conditions, offering life-changing surgical care, or navigating the day-to-day challenges of a busy public university hospital, these efforts are deeply appreciated and do not go unnoticed.

We continue to support a thriving academic and research environment, bolstered by faculty and learners who are relentlessly curious and determined to make a difference. Our researchers are asking important questions, our educators are shaping the next generation of urologists, and our trainees—medical students, residents, and fellows—bring energy and purpose to everything they do. I’m especially proud to share that one of our Visiting Medical Student Scholarship recipients successfully matched into our program this past recruitment cycle, a testament to the impact of that initiative and to the welcoming, inclusive culture we aim to foster.

Later this month, we’ll begin welcoming sub-interns who will rotate through mid-September. These rotations are not only vital to the clinical education of future urologists, but also offer a meaningful opportunity for us to model our department’s core values of belonging, integrity, and innovation. These principles guide every decision we make and shape the way we work with one another, with our patients, and with the broader community.

Looking ahead, we are eager to reconnect with many of you at the upcoming AUA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. It’s always a highlight of the year, and this year, our department will be well-represented with a robust lineup of presentations showcasing the excellence and innovation that define our program. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate these achievements and catch up in person.

Schedule

In closing, I want to emphasize how much you are appreciated and how important you are to this department. Whether you're on the front lines of clinical care, working behind the scenes to support operations, mentoring trainees, or advancing research, you are making a difference. You have my assurance that we will do all that is possible to protect the interests of our patients and our department as we navigate the dynamic landscape of the current healthcare climate.

Thank you for all that you do, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the months ahead.
