Message from the Chair

Wessells-HunterDear friends and colleagues:

The Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association marks a time of rejuvenation for the Department and the field of urology: novel science; scouting for future residents, fellows and faculty; and enjoying the chance to extend our professional networks.

If you attend AUA2024, look for some of the groundbreaking abstracts and lectures in the areas of health care equity, technology, complex urological decision-making as well as the many plenary and podium responsibilities taken on by the members of our Department. The full list of our UW activities is available here.

This year, some of the best ideas coming out of the Department will be presented by residents and fellows. They collectively first authored the majority of the twenty-one posters, podiums, and videos that UW Urology contributed to the meeting in San Antonio. Faculty will be just as busy with an equal number of plenary session and specialty society lectures, instructional courses, a state-of-the-art lecture, and other contributions. Be sure to come to the UW Urology Alumni Reception to meet up with current members of the Department and memorable chief residents and fellows from the more distant past. This year we will have a Texas-sized BBQ Station and bar to entice Alumni attendance!

When we get back to Seattle after the meeting, another cohort of talented and diverse sub-interns will join the Department - we are expecting 5 UW students and an additional 20 students from around the US. Our teaching and clinical faculty will be boosted by an outstanding group of new faculty members, joining us from premiere institutions across the country. These individuals add expertise and depth to our programs and will help us deliver the best care to the most patients across the Pacific Northwest.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our events this spring!

Sincerely,

Hunter Wessells, MD, FACS
