NURF and GME co-sponsored Diversity Recruitment Open House is Back!
The Network for Underrepresented Residents and Fellows (NURF) is delighted to announce their second Diversity Recruitment Open House, scheduled for Monday, 12 October 2020 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, which also happens to be Indigenous Peoples’ Day. This virtual Open House is intended to answer questions for medical students, residents and fellows from underrepresented and/or disadvantaged backgrounds who are currently applying to programs at the University of Washington.
The meeting will open with brief presentations by leadership from NURF, the GME Office and the Office of Healthcare Equity to highlight the on-going projects and initiatives to help recruit and retain underrepresented (URM) residents, fellows and faculty. Panel members will discuss specific actions UW Medicine is taking to strengthen our culture of anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion and the resources available for housestaff support.
Prospective candidates will be able to join private break-out groups for the second portion of the Zoom session, giving them a chance to ask questions about navigating the city, training programs and hospitals. We will provide optional questions and talking points to each program that can be used as guidance if needed. The length of the break-out session can be as long as each program would like, however, do keep in mind that many of the students are joining us from different, and often later, time zones. It might be useful if, during the last 15 minutes of the breakout session that the medical students have an opportunity to speak exclusively with UW housestaff.
We would like everyone to pre-register for the Open House to facilitate assignments for our break-out sessions. Pre-registration will allow us to provide participating medical student contact information to program directors after the event.
Due to Zoom limitations with our last event, we are asking programs to provide their own Zoom links to Nora Coronado at the email below. These will be shared with prospective candidates and attendees prior to this event and will be used to facilitate break-out groups.
