biography
Dr. Sorensen is a UW associate professor of urology and Director of the Comprehensive Metabolic Stone Clinic at the Puget Sound VA. He is a surgeon, educator, and researcher who specializes in advanced laparoscopic surgery, endourology and the treatment and prevention of kidney stones.
His clinical interests include all aspects of the treatment of kidney stones including surgical (shock wave lithotripsy, ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy, and percutaneous treatment of larger stones) and comprehensive medical prevention of recurrent stones. Dr. Sorensen also performs other minimally invasive techniques such as robotic and laparoscopic kidney and reconstructive surgeries.
Dr. Sorensen’s research focuses on the impact of dietary and non-medicinal therapies on the risk of kidney stone formation. Epidemiology, outcomes, and health services research as well as translational research to improve the detection of kidney stones using ultrasound, and efforts to make lithotripsy safer and more effective.
