Biography

Alex Zhu, DO, is a urologist, acting Instructor, and Society of Urologic Oncology fellow at the UW School of Medicine.

Dr. Zhu is a compassionate physician who believes in placing the patient at the center of all healthcare decisions. With a philosophy rooted in holistic care, Dr. Zhu views each patient as a unique individual, understanding their priorities and goals as integral to the healing process. Dr. Zhu is committed to listening deeply, hearing concerns, and providing support every step of the way. By building meaningful relationships, Dr. Zhu ensures that each patient feels heard, valued, and empowered in their healthcare journey. Through this patient-first approach, Dr. Zhu strives to deliver care that not only treats illness but also promotes overall well-being, reflecting a dedication to the art and science of medicine.

Dr. Zhu was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but called Los Angeles, California, his home. He graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology. He then worked for five years in the healthcare industry, gaining invaluable experience that propelled him to pursue medicine. He attended Des Moines University for medical school and ultimately completed his urology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. While at the University of Michigan, he was recognized for winning multiple regional and national urological awards. He was named the department’s “Resident of the Year” and was voted by his peers to be the best “Teacher of the Year.” He consistently scored in the top 5%tile  of urology residents on the national urology competency exam and has published articles in many scientific journals and textbooks. He is honored to continue his training at the University of Washington as a Society of Urologic Oncology fellow and serve the people of his new community.

Dr. Zhu’s clinical interests are in genitourinary malignancies including prostate, bladder, kidney, upper tract urothelial carcinoma, penile, and testis. His research focuses on running cutting-edge clinical trials that help patients win their fight against urologic cancers.

 

In his spare time, Dr. Zhu enjoys spending time with his wife and son, BBQing, watching sports, hiking/camping, and spending time outdoors.
